Lawyers Representing Railroad Workers VA
Supervisor Run-Ins
Railroad injuries
bring out the worst in railroad supervisors. As a conductor
and local chairman at the railroad, I experienced many run-ins with
supervisors.
During my career as a railroad brakeman,
conductor and local chairman, many strange things happened.
I remember the tragic incident when a fellow brakeman and friend
had both legs severed by a free-rolling freight car. The car
had been released down the wrong track. It was nighttime and
the car struck the brakeman as he crossed the track.
The rescue squad took
the severely injured brakeman to the hospital, put a railroad detective
on the door to keep people out, and cordoned off the area of the
accident. The railroad then sequestered the crew members and
interrogated each of them alone for long periods of time.
Fortunately, the brakeman
lived through the loss of both legs. After he tried to deal
with railroad supervisors and the claims department, I was finally
called by the family and asked the name of a railroad injury lawyer.
I supplied a name and the brakeman hired that firm.
The law firm asked me
to go to the area of the accident and go over what the brakeman
had told them about how the accident happened.
Under Court order, the
lawyer and I were allowed to enter the property. I was greeted
by railroad supervisors and told my actions amounted to disloyalty
to the railroad and that I had better watch my back in the future.
Their behavior was ridiculous and I felt I had a duty to help my
fellow union member and fellow worker. I made a record of
the threats made to me and with this public exposure the supervisors
backed off.
This is only one example
of railroad supervisors trying to intimidate the injured person
but also trying to intimidate anyone trying to help the injured
person. I am pleased to report that the injured brakeman received
a large out-of-court settlement. I was proud to be of help.
This is the type of
aggressive attitude and philosophy of the lawyers at Wilson &
Hajek, a railroad injury law firm representing injured railroad
workers. Take it from the conductor/lawyer, we will stand
up to the railroad to get the injured railroad worker a full and
fair verdict or settlement.
Railroad
